Catholics and illegals...

It is morally right to perform an act of mercy for one's neighbor... whether helping an enemy combatant lying in a ditch, bleeding... or meeting the immediate material needs of a person in this country legally or not.
It is wrong, however, to join with the open borders crusaders, urging Americans to break our laws, in the name of helping illegal aliens, to keep them from being deported.
Read more here from Michelle Malkin.
I know I've been quoting this a lot lately, but remember... No bad tree can produce good fruit. Breaking the law is breaking the law. As Michelle puts it in her piece, the Lord said to minister to those in prison... He did not say to bust them out of prison.
Legal immigrants who play by the rules come here, in part, because of our historical respect for the rule of law... The rule of law is what guarantees our freedom of religious expression. To disregard it now hurts all of us.
The Catholic Bishops should have no part in this.
