Common good versus collective good...

Many people have a basic misunderstanding about the term common good.  Common good does not mean the same thing as collective good
The term common good refers to what is good, not for our society at large... but for each individual... the smallest among us... every single one of us. This idea of common good has been twisted and perverted to allow for great evil in our society.
Collective good does have a place in our society. Things such as highways, national defense, national parks serve the collective good... Everyone shares the benefits... while not necessarily participating in them.
But collective good is not to be confused with common good. Common good serves the individual, not the collective.
Some policymakers think that certain issues... while injurious for some... if they promote the "common good"... are still okay. They are wrong. That is not the definition of common good
If any policy does not protect the individual's rights, it is not part of the common good. If any policy causes harm or injury to even one individual, it does not serve the common good, and should never be permitted. No matter what other good it claims to do.
Remember... A rotten tree cannot bear good fruit.
